Suggestions on New Graphics Card?
10/30/9 at 8:06am

Im thinking about picking up a new card for between 50-60$  Dont need the cats meow, and cant afford one too expensive.  I currently run
XP sp3 and have a PCIe slot in mobo, but ive read that PCIE2 Cards will work in PCIe1 slots as backwards compatibility.  Any suggestions on what to start looking at?

Tiger direct and pricewatch useually have the lowest prices. Sometimes newegg has some good deals. i picked up a HIS RADEON 2600xt 1.2 ghz card from tiger direct 2 years ago before ghz prices droped and it was only 79$ then.

This one here is under 70$ and supports dual link where you can hook 2 up back to back and run much faster. Check it out.

personally I tend to avoid tigerdirect, if you ever have to return something to them you'll know why.  I highly recommend newegg.com (they have won 8 out of 10 best business awards for the last 3 years) and if you cant find what you want there than i recommend zipzoomfly.com

side note, what card do you have now?  The price range you are considering is probably not a considerable enough improvement over your current card to justify the cost.  My personal rule of thumb is to not buy a vid card under $200-$300, that puts you in the midrange best bang for your buck category

+1 also if ur running a motherboard with pcie u probally have an old cpu and ddr1. so basically if u were to upgrade to new video card more than likley your cpu will be bottlenecking your performance of your video card so its basically worthless to upgrade it. personally i would get new cpu, mobo,n ram. then get a new gpu

Limes & ihateu I agree with both of you guys on the assesment and pricerange. But he was looking to spend 50-60$ so i was trying to get him one decent card for that price.  I personaly have never had a problem with tiger direct. But new egg is a better choice in my eyes aswell. TD is a lil cheaper. And a complete upgrade would be great if it was in the budget.. Hell wouldnt we all love to have the new  "Alienware area 51" It only starts out at 3999$ Smiley. But seriously. Your not going to get much of a upgrade for 50-60$. So maybe save that towards a more lofty investment like they said and get a combo pack. Mobo/ram/cpu/gpu.

Currently my bottleneck IS my Graphics card. I have an
Old 256mb ATI x1300 pro.  So almost any Graphics card upgrade is a huge help right now.  lol  I am running a Intel Core Duo E6600 (2.4Ghz x2) 2gigs DDR2 Ram.  I have one power supply running my mobo, and another one running harddrives, dvdrw drive, floppy and fans.  Cant afford to get new motherboard as its only 8months old right now.

@hate u, I do like newegg, but i have also had a couple of bad experiences with them throughout the years.  Ive done tigerdirect too, you can have good and bad experiences at all the places imo.  I sometimes do the microcenter in mayfield so i dont have to wait and pay for shipping.  But im leaning towards newegg bc of what their stock is right now.

I would pay up to $75 dollars for a card right now, bc Im saving $30 for the Win7 student upgrade.  My wife is a student and she would never b able to run it on her laptop.  Im planning on getting the 64 bit so when I can afford more Ram Ill be able to use it.

personally to me 75$ on "upgrading" a video card is pointless and a waste of money when it comes to price/performance. but if you have to do it get a 4650 or 9800GT

nope it was in a dell dimension 8400 with e6700 dual core cpu and 2 gigs of ddr2 667, my x1300pro didnt even have a fan on it just passive cooling. it can and will handle bf2 on all low settings, but if the monitor is bigger that will cause problems.
